P+R. Park your car in a suburb and than use public transport.

If you plan to visit Amsterdam by car, you can use parking places which are called P+R. P+R means 'park and ride'. It works in the following way. You park your car at a dedicated parking place in the outskirts. After that you must use a bus, tram or metro to go to the city centre. You can not use the train. You also must use a bus, tram or metro to return from the city centre to the parking place. It is very cheap parking facility, but you have to do it right. You must use the public transport exactly as prescribed. The price for parking is only 1 euro. You have to purchase additional public transport tickets. The tickets cost in total not more than 8 euro for the whole group. The tickets are valid for the travel to the center of the city and for the return to the P+R parking place. You may not use the tickets in the meantime! P+R low price applies only if you use P+R as prescribed. Thus you have to buy 'GVB' tickets and use them to travel to the city central area. You must use the same 'GVB' tickets to travel from the city central area back to the P+R place. Ask the officials at the spot - they can help. By the way, the P+R is less usefull during the night after midnight because public transport stops and therefore you can not return to the parking place. During the night you could park in the street or on another parking place in the city.
P+R Amsterdam Arena is rather safe place situated under Ajax football stadium. Therefore you can safely leave your luggage in the car.
